Median Income
Median income divides the income Distribution into two equal parts, one with residents having incomes above the median and the other with residents having incomes below the median.

Median family and household incomes are based on the Distribution of the total number of units including those with no income. However, the median income calculation for persons is based on persons with income. Income is the sum of all the wages, salaries, profits, interests payments, rents and other forms of Earnings received in a given period of time. The median income is considered by many statisticians to be a better indicator than the average household income as it is not dramatically affected by unusually High or Low values.
