Overview:
Klein & Franco was organized in 1992 by Guillermo Walter Klein and Carlos Hernán Franco, former partners of Klein & Mairal, with the aim of creating a modern and efficient business law firm, capable of rendering responsive and high quality service to business companies and individuals.
The firm has always aimed at providing counseling with an approach that combines technical skills, business sense, honest judgment, cost consciousness and hands-on commitment to its clients. These features have been material in creating close working relationships with the businesses and individual clients.
Klein & Franco has experience in most of the fields of law and business. The firm has grown consistently since its creation. In the last few years, the firm has become an active participant in many of the major transactions in Argentina and has expanded significantly its international exposure, particularly within the region. While out of region investment still conforms the majority of the cross-border transactions handled by the firm, the increasing integration of South American markets have provided the attorneys of Klein & Franco with opportunities to participate in transnational projects involving Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Bolivia.
The firm’s client base is varied, with Argentine, Latin American, U.S. and European clients, including among others, international corporations, privatized companies, start-up companies and individuals. The firm also devotes time and efforts to pro-bono work, assisting chambers of commerce and charitable and educational organizations.
The firm is organized along areas of practice without resorting to a rigid system of "departments". This facilitates fluid team building as needed for particular projects. Practice groups meet regularly to share experiences on client projects, to participate in training programs and to exchange information about recent developments in law and practice. Newly arriving associates are carefully selected among applicants with outstanding academic credentials. Associates have the opportunity to move to different practice groups, tending to focus on a particular area of practice as they become more senior.
Klein & Franco’s attorneys were educated in Argentine universities, and several of them have studied and/or worked in the U.S. and/or Europe. Some of them teach in Argentine universities and have published books and articles in Spanish or English in Argentine and foreign law reviews and business publications.
The firm’s partners are recognized in several fields. All of them have lectured in Argentina and/or abroad on a wide range of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, foreign investment, corporate law, administrative law, corporate finance and capital markets, intellectual property, competition law and criminal law.
Some of Klein & Franco’s members have had a commitment to public service. Most notable case is Guillermo Walter Klein, who served as the Argentine Secretary of State for Economic Planning between 1976 and 1981, and as the Argentine Undersecretary of Foreign Investment, Acting Undersecretary of Finance, and Undersecretary of Public Works and Services between 1968 and 1970. |
