Overview:
Banking is about people, and we want you to feel comfortable about the people who are handling your money. Here's a brief history of Bank of American Fork to acquaint you with our way of doing business. The People's State Bank of American Fork was organized in 1913 by a group of local businessmen. During its first 15 years the bank prospered modestly, serving customers (mostly sheep farmers) from Orem to Lehi. Clifford E. Young served as manager of the bank from 1913 until the mid 1950s.
After the stock market crashed in 1929 the bank struggled, but survived with the help of Mr. Young and other employees who sold and mortgaged personal property to raise the necessary money. Another bank in town was forced to close in early 1932 and Mr. Young decided to close People's State Bank temporarily as well rather than risk a run on the bank. The bank re-opened later that year. Orville Gunther, a local businessman, had been serving on the bank's board of directors for several years. In the early 1960s he was offered the opportunity to purchase controlling interest in the bank, which he did. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Gunther shortened the name of the bank by dropping "People's State" so that it became known as simply "Bank of American Fork." President Gunther continually relied on his talented, knowledgeable employees to help grow the bank. The philosophy of "Serve Customers and Protect Assets" helped the bank progress and earned it a trustworthy reputation.
Expansion began in the 1970s when the bank's first branch was built in Alpine. A loan office was opened in Orem in the 1980s, and the 1990s saw full-service branches constructed in Highland, Orem, Lehi, Pleasant Grove and Spanish Fork. Most recently, we have added branches in the Salt Lake Valley, including locations in Draper, Sandy, Murray, and Riverton.
We are proud to be a locally owned and operated financial institution. We consistently rank as one of the safest, most stable banks in the nation. High capitalization, low loan default rates, high return on assets, and modest overhead expenses all contribute to our safety.
Besides serving our customers, Bank of American Fork makes many valuable contributions in our communities. Our employees spend many hours each year assisting in local volunteer programs and teaching financial management courses to students in public schools. The bank also donates money to numerous education, civic and church groups throughout Utah.
Our colorful hot air balloons have become a trademark symbol at local events, flying at parades, sporting events, and schools throughout the state.
Bank of American Fork's philosophy of "putting the customer first" remains our primary focus. Like our founders, we'll work tirelessly to protect your financial assets and give you the fine banking service you deserve. |
