Islanders Bank

Mission statement:

Islanders Bank is a well established community bank, headquartered in San Juan County . We are the local bank dedicated to serving the citizens and businesses of San Juan County. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Banner Corporation, our goal is to deliver superior products and services to the island communities we serve. We also pledge to “Do the Right Thing” by providing a culture which attracts, empowers, rewards, and provides growth opportunities for our employees. We are confident that by embracing the following values in everything that we do; our customers, our employees and the communities we serve will continue to grow and prosper going forward:

Honesty and Integrity
Mutual Respect
Quality
Trust
Teamwork
History:

Islanders Bank was organized in 1980 by several local San Juan County residents, two of which are still active Board members. Their goal then, as now, was to serve the financial needs of the County, its businesses and its citizens. Richard Kneipp was hired as the original President and CEO and Islanders Bank opened it doors for business on July 5, 1981 in Friday Harbor. A second branch office was established on Orcas Island in October of 1988, and in August, 1996, Islanders Bank purchased the Lopez Island branch from Key Bank. We enjoy a 42% market share competing against Key Bank, Washington Federal, Wells Fargo and Whidbey Island Bank.

Islanders Bank became a wholly owned subsidiary of Banner Corporation on May 1, 2007 as such Islanders Bank will continue to operate as the only state chartered commercial bank headquartered in San Juan County with a local Board of Directors and local management.

In April 2008, Bob Coleman was promoted to President, CEO and Director of Islanders Bank to replace retiring President and CEO Kneipp. It is interesting to note that Bob Coleman becomes only the second President in Islanders Banks’ 27 year history. Richard Kneipp remains as a member of the Islanders Bank Board of Directors.
