Overview:
Day Pitney was formed in 2007 through the merger of two prominent east coast law firms – Day, Berry & Howard and Pitney Hardin. The merger brought together approximately 400 attorneys and the century-long legacies of the two firms to create a firm that reaches from Boston to Washington, D.C. with nine offices in five states.
The History of Day, Berry & Howard
Guided by the vision and principles of founder, Edward Day, the firm quickly expanded from his one-room office in the heart of Hartford's legal and financial district to become a recognized firm across New England. During a century of changing legal and economic conditions, the firm's commitment to integrity, responsiveness, and client service never wavered.
At the time of the merger, Day, Berry & Howard included more than 235 attorneys serving a regional, national, and international client base from offices in Boston, Greenwich, Hartford, New Haven, New York, Stamford, and West Hartford.
The History of Pitney Hardin
In 1902, John Pitney and John Hardin, who had been practicing law separately since 1884, joined forces to create Pitney & Hardin. Through its history, Pitney Hardin has been an innovator, becoming one of the first law firms to create an environmental practice group, form a women's leadership program, and adopt total quality management standards.
With more than 170 lawyers and a strong presence in New York and New Jersey, Pitney Hardin served clients in the areas of litigation, corporate, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property. The firm earned the designation of a preferred counsel to ten of the Fortune 50 corporations.
