Monson Savings Bank

Mission statement:

Monson Savings Bank  is proud to be an integral part of its community. It succeeds by remaining financially strong and by meeting the changing needs of all of its customers with very high value financial services and products. We work hard to be a bank where people want to do their banking.
Overview:

Monson Savings Bank is proud to be an integral part of our greater community.  We are dedicated to supporting social, cultural, educational and athletic activities in the towns we serve.  We have steadily increased charitable contributions to community interests and activities over time.

As banks have grown in size and scope, many have turned away from the smaller organizations that do so much for local communities.  That’s why community banks are more important than ever.  We support arts councils, senior centers, athletic teams, school year books, local theatre groups, and community festivals and gatherings.

We also support the civic commitments of our employees.  You’ll see them at meetings of the Chambers of Commerce, the Rotary Clubs, the Parent Teachers Associations and Organizations;  or coaching athletic teams, organizing blood drives, reading aloud to school children, and providing financial counseling to seniors.

At Monson Savings, we are happy to be a community bank and a part of your community.  Here are just a few specifics from the past year:
History:

In 1872, the population of Monson was nearly 3000. At that time, Monson had one commercial bank, the Monson National Bank. Recognizing the need for a bank for the working men and women of Monson to save their money in, a group of business leaders incorporated Monson Savings Bank on March 27, 1872. On June 1, 1872, Monson Savings Bank began business transactions out of the Monson National Bank office. Not only, did the two banks share the same building, they shared the same vault, till, counter, and personnel.

On June 1, 1893, a new bank building, located at our Monson office's present site, was ready for occupancy. This new building separated the savings and commercial banks. As the bank grew, various changes were made to the internal and external configuration and physical appearance. In 1965 the bank was remodeled for utilization of the whole building by the Savings Bank. In 1985, the building was extended to the rear creating two floors of office space and the drive up teller.

In June of 1997, 125 years after it opened, Monson Savings Bank reached a banking milestone when our assets reached $100 million. The day was celebrated with cake and champagne! Another memorable day in the history of Monson Savings Bank is August 1, 1998. The day our first branch location, in the neighboring town of Hampden, opened for business. Continuing our growth and success, we opened our second branch in Wilbraham in October of 2003.

For over 135 years Monson Savings Bank has proudly served the citizens of Monson and the surrounding communities. Today we remain dedicated to providing our customers with the sincere, considerate service they deserve while supplying all the products they need.
