Overview:
Seaflower Ventures (Waltham, MA) is a life science focused venture capital firm formed by entrepreneurs from the biopharmaceutical industry to provide capital, advice, and hands-on support to promising life science start-ups.
Seaflower was founded in 1993 on the premise that successful life science investing requires substantial prior industry experience in senior operating roles, in-depth scientific, medical, business and financial expertise, a limited number of portfolio companies per partner, and hands-on support of portfolio companies. Accordingly, we serve as active partners with scientific entrepreneurs at all stages of development from start-up to exit.
Seaflower typically serves as the lead investor in the initial financing round and expects to be a major investor in the follow-on financing rounds of our portfolio companies. To date, Seaflower has raised three early stage life science venture capital funds. We are currently investing our third fund, Seaflower Health Ventures III, L.P. Since 1993, we have invested in over 25 promising early stage life science and medical technology companies, and have built a strong track record in the life sciences venture community. We typically invest $1.0M - $3.0M in the initial financing round of a new portfolio company, and $7.0M - $10.0M total per portfolio company including follow-on rounds.
We make life cycle investments in start-up and early-stage life science companies, primarily in biopharmaceuticals, therapeutics discovery and development.
Geographically, Seaflower focuses on opportunities in New England, the Mid Atlantic, the Great Lakes region (Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois), Eastern Canada (Montreal & Toronto), and the Southeast. We also consider co-investment opportunities alongside a strong local lead investor in other parts of the Midwest, the Northwest, and occasionally the West Coast. Seaflower does not consider investment opportunities outside of North America.
Our limited partners include foundations, corporations, pension funds, insurance companies, hospitals, family investment firms, biopharmaceutical executives and many of the entrepreneurs we have previously backed. Seaflower's limited partners are based in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. |
