History:
The Worcester Police Department Credit Union was incorporated on November 22, 1946 and officially opened for business on February 1, 1947. The first official incorporators' meeting was held on October 22nd, 1946. In attendance were Boleslaw Izbicki, Frank R. Stake, George P. Merril, Joseph Turner Jr., Iver C. Blomstrom, Cornelius S. Driscoll, Edward M. Nally, Jr., Paul C. Shea, Edward T. Tobin, Leroy L. Cayer, Thor F. Rylander, John K. Mahoney, Thomas F. Cotter, Sigmund S. Gorczynski, Edward Hogan, Francis S. Belliveau, Leonard A Gribbons, Robert H. O'Day, and Patrick F. Carroll. This meeting was called by Lieutenant John J. Guerin who was one of the founders and subsequently served as the first President of the Worcester Police Department Credit Union. In meetings that followed Edgar S. Campbell and Francis H. McNamara were elected as Vice-President and Treasurer/Clerk, respectively. Each of these men shared a very important part in the organization of the Worcester Police Department Credit Union.
It should be acknowledged that the idea of a credit union itself was not enough. Individual pledges were desperately needed in order to launch the idea of a credit union. Many individuals generously promised a cumulative total of two thousand one hundred and twenty five dollars by the time the first meeting was held.
A Credit Committee and Auditing Committee were established with three elected officials serving on each committee. A Board of Directors was elected and a code of bylaws adopted and published. Lending limits were established and it was voted that the maximum unsecured loan would be set at one hundred dollars and a secured loan at three hundred dollars.
Over the years changes have been made to the Credit Union including new directors, amended bylaws, policy and procedure updates, increased state and federal regulations, a move from a shoe box card filing system to total computerization, and a full service, offsite branch and an ATM machine.
Many individuals from 1946 to present should be commended for their hard work. As a result of their dedication we now have a solid and member oriented Credit Union. Member service is our top priority! We look forward to servicing all your financial needs and hope you will think of us first with your next financial transaction. We appreciate your loyalty! |
