First National Bank of Volga

Overview:

In 2002, First National Bank of Volga celebrated its 100th year of service as an independent community bank. We are proud to serve the residents of our area with their financial needs.

The bank's history began on December 20, 1901, when a group of citizens of Brookings County met to organize the First National Bank of Volga. Membership of the first Board of Directors included George Morehouse of Brookings, and Frank Secora, A. Melham, A.E. Whitney, and C.W. Smith, all of Volga.

George Morehouse was elected President and C.W. Smith was elected Cashier of the Bank. On January 20, 1902, the Comptroller of Currency at Washington, DC issued a charter to The First National Bank of Volga to begin a general banking business. The bank formally opened on February 5, 1902, and has been in continuous operation since that time (on its original charter).

The first offices of the bank were in the area now occupied as part of Klavetter's Plumbing. Later in 1902, the corner location of Kasan Avenue and Second Street was purchased and occupied. This building is now owned and occupied by Ford Studios. The bank moved into its present facilities on December 18, 1967 and began operations in the new building on December 20, 1967.

On September 9, 1983, North Central Financial Services, Inc., a one-bank holding company, purchased the majority of bank stock. With this change, The First National Bank of Volga remains a separate independent community bank. All bank decisions are made by a local board of directors whose main interest lies in the well being of our community and customers. On June 5, 2006, we opened a full-service branch at 427 Eighth St. S. in Brookings to better serve our customers who live and work in Brookings.

As the Oldest Bank in Brookings County, we heartily extend our thanks to our established customers. We will bring our home town banking practices to Brookings and invite new area residents and businesses to visit with us about their financial needs.
