North Texas Opportunity Fund

Overview:

Launched in July 2000, the North Texas Opportunity Fund is a private equity fund established to provide equity capital and entrepreneurial assistance to underserved market sectors. Utilizing the venture capital model for nurturing and growing promising companies, the Fund makes equity investments in small- to middle-market enterprises that are:
1) Located in or willing to expand operations to underserved North Texas region markets, with a special emphasis on the southern sector of Dallas; or
2) Minority- or women-owned businesses located anywhere in the North Texas region.

NTOF is a return driven entity, not a charitable organization. In 2001, NTOF exceeded its fund raising goal by 6.8% and continues to pursue its "dual bottom line" of return on investment and community development in the North Texas region.

When evaluating investments opportunities, NTOF has set the following criteria. If your company meets all of the criteria, you are encouraged to submit your business plan to us for review.

Invest in niche businesses with attractive growth prospects. NTOF will seek investment opportunities in privately-held companies or divisions of larger companies that have defensible market positions, predictable exposure to risks (e.g., economic, market or technology risks), and attractive growth prospects either internally through core revenue growth or externally through strategic acquisitions. NTOF also expects to acquire platform companies to (i) pursue growth build-ups through strategic acquisitions (and thereby convert from a financial buyer to a strategic buyer) or (ii) execute rapid rollouts of multiple-location concepts. Investment candidates generally will have established a solid franchise through product leadership, superior customer service, low cost structure, brand name or other competitive advantages.

Pursue investments with value enhancement opportunities. NTOF will seek opportunities where significant value can be created through operational improvements and strategic direction. NTOF believes that businesses operating in its target market offer substantial opportunities for operational improvements and expects to pursue an active portfolio management role to enhance the performance of the Partnership’s investments.

Invest in companies which leverage our Limited Partners’ strengths. The Partnership expects to leverage its relationship with its Limited Partners to help structure multi-company strategic contracts with the Fund’s portfolio companies. In addition, when appropriate, the Principals expect that certain Limited Partners will provide technical assistance to portfolio companies. Overall, the Fund’s objective is to collaborate with its Limited Partners to provide win-win relationships for entrepreneurs, investors and the community.
