History:

The history of First Financial Bank is an interesting blend of local Parker County banking, both past and present.

In 1984, five long-time Weatherford residents established the first new bank to open in Weatherford in ninety-four years. This new bank was named Weatherford National Bank. The Bank began operation with two million dollars in capital, and grew to it’s present fourteen million in capital.

The original directors were: Walter Fant Worthington, Dr. Bill Wester, Gerald Davis, Mac Coalson and Helen Brogdon.

After extensive research, all growth projections revealed the prime location for the location of the new bank was at the corner of South Main Street and College Park Drive.

This "New" Bank continued to grow at a very rapid pace. In July, 1995, First Financial Bank built a new branch office at the corner of North Main Street and Fourth Street. This location is the only financial institution located in the northern part of Weatherford, and it serves that area quite well.

In April of 1996, First Financial Bankshares of Abilene, Texas purchased Citizens National Bank and Weatherford National Bank and merged the two financial institutions.

Weatherford National Bank was the name chosen for the newly acquired banks. The merger with Citizens National Bank created a blend of history and tradition. Citizens National Bank was established in 1868, and was the oldest Texas Charter west of Ft. Worth in the state of Texas.

James Robertson (J.R.) Couts in partnership with John A. Fain established the Couts and Fain Bank on the Weatherford Courthouse Square . A two-story stone building was completed on the corner of the Courthouse Square and North Main Street in 1885. In 1927, a merger was completed with the Parker County National Bank.

Citizens National Bank has continued to grow and expand it's downtown location, while maintaining it's historic and traditional appearance.
