The Hocking Valley Bank

History:

Hocking Valley Bank is proud of its distinguished heritage and its current position as the largest locally owned bank in Athens County, located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in beautiful Southeast Ohio.

The bank’s founding fathers were six area businessmen whose vision was to establish a bank that would provide a full range of financial services to the City of Athens and surrounding areas, a bank that would be a part of the community, invest in the community and help to make Athens County a better place to live.

That vision became real on August 12, 1963 when Hocking Valley Bank opened its doors for business with six employees. Customers began to notice the upstart bank at 30 E. State Street in Athens and appreciated the personal customer service they received. By year-end, after just four-and-a-half months in business, the bank showed more than $2,400,000 in total assets.

Through the years, the bank continued to grow along with our region. In June 1998, Hocking Valley Bank became the county's largest depository, giving us the distinction of being the largest bank in Athens County for the first time since our founding in 1963.

Today, the bank has grown to seven offices in Athens County - four in the City of Athens and offices in Albany, Coolville, and The Plains - with total assets of more than $215,000,000.

Our portfolio of banking products rivals those of any national or regional competitor and includes a full range of state-of-the-art electronic products and services such as Internet banking and online bill pay that allow our customers to bank at their convenience.

Because we are locally owned and our Directors are leaders in the communities we serve, we can offer prompt, quick decisions on loans.

Our lending decisions reinforce our commitment to keeping our local money here, invested in helping our neighbors and growing our communities. This also sets us apart from our competitors.

We remain dedicated to the sentiments offered by the bank's first president, Howard E. Stout, in a letter dated January 8, 1964 to the bank's original stockholders:

"We hope with your help to make Hocking Valley Bank the biggest little bank in Athens County: big in size, big in strength, big in complete banking service unequalled by any bank of any size, big in friendliness. Big enough to serve you, small enough to know you."
