History:
Since 1887, Farmers National Bank has shared in the history of our community. Farmers has met the financial needs of neighbors and served as a source of strength, service and pride in the Mahoning Valley.
Farmers was founded on February 19, 1887 by a group of local businessmen to serve the needs of the growing community. The group purchased 500 shares of stock valued at $100 each to begin their banking venture. Alexander Dickson, a former school teacher, Civil War captain and Treasurer of Mahoning County, was named the bank’s first president at its first charter meeting.
On the bank’s first day of business, a total of $170 was deposited from a tavern keeper, barber, school master, two tailors and a housewife. Today members of the community continue to choose Farmers National Bank as their financial institution and that commitment to community is what has made Farmers a success.
Located in the heart of Canfield, on the town’s historic green, Farmers serves as a reminder of the community’s past and its continued success in the future. It remains visibly at the center of our town’s activities — a place where residents still gather for parades, picnics and concerts.
From humble beginnings in the town’s center with a single employee, Farmers has grown to include 17 locations and two Trust Offices throughout all three counties— Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana. And we continue to evolve and better meet the ever-changing needs of the community without losing sight of what has made us so strong. We believe in one on one service, that’s why our branches can still be found in small communities where personalized service is exemplified. As a complement to our customer service, Farmers offers access to accounts and businesses transactions wherever you need it and whenever you need it with online access. New and updated services are always added to make our customer’s banking experience at Farmers even better.
With a strong foundation to build on, Farmers will continue to be an on-going source of strength, stability and customer service in the community. We think Alex Dickson would still be proud of his bank. |
