The Metamora State Bank

History:

The Metamora State Bank first opened its doors on July 1, 1944, and celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2009. Initially operated by a husband and wife team of only two employees with a financial base of only $1.5 million, the bank has enjoyed much growth, and now employs over 20 people, with assets in excess of $50 million. It is our mission to provide a safe, secure, competitive source of financial services to the residents of our market area, while remaining an independent locally-owned community bank.

The employees today are spectacular. They understand the true meaning of a small town bank, where we strive to get to know our customers on a first-name basis. We look forward to people coming into our bank and hearing about their families and friends. The customers are not just numbers here.

As one of a dwindling number of locally-owned banks, Metamora State Bank is owned by a one-bank holding company known as Metamora Bancorp, Inc., formed in 1985 to ensure the continuing image of a community bank. The company’s current Board of Directors consists of James Armstrong, Kathleen Fischer, Robert Huskins, Fred Mossing, David Pifer and Thomas Zraik.

Over the years there have not only been changes to the bank building, but to the way it operates, as well. Originally using hand-processed transactions, and then bookkeeping machines to make work easier, the bank embarked on a computerized banking system through a correspondent bank in 1980. In 1992 a remote processing proof machine was purchased, which could process items and transmit the work via telephone lines to our processor. Presently many computers are used to perform daily operations on a network system between both offices. Today’s technology has motivated the bank to take on various challenges to keep up with change.

The product line of the bank has changed as well. We offer a variety of accounts that will meet the individual needs of our customers. Besides the traditional checking and savings accounts, we have some new accounts available: Simply Free Checking and BusinessPlus Checking. These have been very popular with our existing and new customers. We offer Certificates of Deposits and Individual Retirement Accounts. Call us and inquire about our competitive rates. We frequently offer Certificate of Deposit Rate Specials. We offer a variety of loan products for our personal and business customers. Our loan officers will meet directly with you to provide a win/win solution to your borrowing needs.

We introduced our website and Internet Banking in 2001. Customers have been very receptive to looking at their accounts online, making transfers between accounts and even paying their bills through Internet Banking. We will continue to utilize technology to address our customers' growing needs in the future. Telebanc was introduced in 2009.

To maintain consistent growth, the Metamora State Bank opened a second branch in Sylvania in 1995. Located on the northeast corner of Centennial Road and Sylvania-Metamora Road, the new branch holds true to the small town bank image, while providing the level of customer service that has kept the bank thriving for more than 65 years. Meanwhile, the original branch in Metamora was renovated in the spring of 2001.
