Vision:

Our geographic footprint will continue to be in existing markets with branching in other states or areas on a case by case basis. Growth will be driven by our ability to access market share and new products and services while maintaining the community bank image. Our brand identity will continue to be a bank that offers creative, flexible and personalized service with a "small bank" niche and identity. This will be accomplished by local decisions, traditional values and excellent customer service. Our strategy is not to grow through mergers and acquisitions, but to grow by carefully expanding into new markets that compliment our existing strategy while maintaining the overall small bank niche with local decisions and flexible service. |

History:
In August 1978, a group of more than 50 stockholders opened Blue Ridge Savings and Loan on Smoky Park Highway, the present location of the West Asheville Branch office. These stockholders were a diverse group of local business owners, merchants, farmers, developers, and others who took pride in encouraging savings by offering 6% interest on regular savings accounts. They also were among the first in this region to offer 30/60/90 day CDs. Only savings accounts and CDs were originally offered and, until the early 1990s, only mortgage loans were made.
A number of innovations in banking have contributed to the growth of Blue Ridge Savings over the years. For example, Blue Ridge introduced personal banking, a small bank approach to customer relationships, to the Asheville area. As part of personal banking, a checking account service especially for seniors called "Golden Checking" was introduced making checking totally free to anyone 55 and older-including free checks!
Expanding our markets has attributed to facilitating customer convenience by opening branch offices and bringing Blue Ridge Savings' flair of personal banking to other areas of Western North and South Carolina. Now in its 31st year of operation, Blue Ridge Savings Bank has grown from one branch with 3 employees to 11 branches with more than 50 employees.
The current Main Office location on Pack Square in downtown Asheville opened in the early 1980s, followed by Brevard in 1988. A branch office was established in Hendersonville in 1989, and moved to its present Old Spartanburg Road location in 1999. Maggie Valley followed in 2001 with Greer, SC, less than one year later, in 2002. Both the Boone and Fletcher offices opened for business in the first half of 2004, and an office in Stanley was added in 2005. The newest branch office, which opened in 2007 on The Plaza, is located in Charlotte's University area, midway between UNC-Charlotte and Downtown. Blue Ridge Savings Bank opened its 11th branch in Mooresville, North Carolina in June, 2008 and property has been acquired in Locust, North Carolina for our 12th office.
By year-end 2008, Blue Ridge Savings Bank boasted assets of more than $300 million. |
