Overview:

The First National Bank of Hawley was organized in 1905 with H.F. Mensing and Andrew Johnson as the principal stockholders. The bank was located on the east side of Sixth Street, then relocated to a brick building now occupied by the Hawley City Hall, and in 1998 moved into its new facility on Highway 10.

First National Bank was considered a "conservative" lending institution, which proved favorable during the Depression, and was one of the few banks in the country that didn't have to close its doors during the Bank Holiday in 1933, the year the F.D.I.C. was established. In First National Bank's long history, it has remained an Independent Community Bank. There have been ten presidents, with Rick Schultz being promoted to president in 5/2003.

First National Bank provides a number of services in addition to banking, including a real estate agency, an insurance agency, and investments. In October of 1994, a branch office was opened in Dilworth.
