History:

For 125 years, we've been providing the people of Northwestern Wisconsin with solid, personal and professional financial services. Our commitment to superior home-town banking began with the establishment of the Bank of Barron in May of 1885 and continued with its merger with another leading Barron-area institution (Normanna Savings Bank) in 1937.

Joining the the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in 1934, the bank saw its assets jump from $84,000 at the turn of the Century to nearly $840,000 by 1940.

The Chetek branch got its start in December of 1941 when it opened its doors under the name of Indianhead State Bank. In 1974 it changed its name to Chetek State Bank.

Sterling Bank emerged from the consolidation of the Chetek State Bank and the Bank of Barron in 2001. Today, with the addition of branches in Luck in 2002 and Rice Lake in 2004, Sterling Bank now has the leverage of more than $150 million of combined assets, the stability and experience of more than a century of doing business and most importantly, the commitment and personal service that comes from being a community bank.

2010 marks our 125th year of business and we look forward to celebrating our quasquicentennial by continuing to provide our friends and neighbors with convenient, personal and professional banking services.
