First Bank

Overview:

First Bank is a diversified financial organization with offices located in Tomah, Wisconsin. The Main Bank office is located downtown Tomah, about 1 1/2 hours Northwest of Madison on Interstate 94 or 45 minutes East of La Crosse on Interstate 90 - "Where the I Divides is Wisconsin's Gateway to Cranberry Country." We also have a bank branch located in the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Tomah.

Our specific goal is to offer the best possible product to our customers in the most efficient, friendly manner. That philosophy is demonstated in our mission statement: First, Friendly, Fast, Financially Successful, while remaining as an independent community financial service provider. We at First Bank feel that this statement best communicates what we stand for to our employees, our shareholders, the public and to you, our customers.
History:

The Bank of Tomah was organized by Frank Drew and his brother, S. Drew, and their associates in 1893 under the name of the Drew Brothers Bankers. It was that year that Frank Drew came to Tomah, Wisconsin from Dakota Territory, where he and his brother had been engaged in the banking business. They opened their private bank in Tomah in a small building on Superior Avenue, with the total capital of $10,000. Following the failure of Thayer Bank here in 1893, they purchased that bank from the receiver, increased their capital to $25,000, and converted the institution into a State Bank under charter dated March 3, 1894. At that time the bank moved to its present location, 1021 Superior Avenue.

The bank name was changed to First Bank of Tomah in July, 1967. The primary reason for the name change was due to the bank being the oldest local bank in continuous operation since its organization.

On November 14, 1988, the First Bank of Tomah was sold to Bancorp of Tomah, Inc., a Wisconsin bank holding company. The Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of the holding company.

On March 3, 1994, the First Bank of Tomah celebrated 100 years of continuous service to the Monroe County area.

On January 1, 2000, our name was changed to First Bank to welcome customers outside the Tomah area.

On April 12, 2007, The Bancorp of Tomah, Inc. changed its name to First Community Bancshares, Inc.

On July 2008, First Bank welcomes the Menomonee Falls office as a new branch location and is proud to offer a full range of services.
