For a century and a half, First National Bank, a subsidiary of First National of Nebraska, has set the standard for outstanding customer service coupled with some of the most innovative financial products in the industry.

When it opened in 1857, First National was a local bank that served only Omaha and the surrounding communities. Today, First National is the largest privately owned banking company in the United States, with locations in seven states and more than 6.6 million customers across the country. First National of Nebraska and its affiliates have $17 billion in managed assets and over 5,000 employee associates.

History:

As an organization over 150 years old, First National Bank is always thinking ahead. Founded in 1857 by two pioneers, Herman and Augustus Kountze, it was the first national bank chartered from Omaha west. It was one of the first banks to issue credit cards - long before many larger banks did so - and it was the first U.S. company to use fuel cell technology as a primary power source. It's also the first name in financing for the ethanol industry as the largest commercial lender for that industry.

The pioneers who founded First National Bank did so in the spirit of innovation and commitment to customer service. Today, this sixth generation family-owned business has become the largest privately-held bank holding company in the United States, as well as one of the largest family-owned holding companies in the country. And while some may say that the Kountze brothers could never have imagined how large and influential their bank would become, we beg to differ. These two men had big dreams for the future of their bank and their customers. At First National Bank we still have big dreams for the future of our organization - and are as hopeful and excited today about the future of our bank as Herman and Augustus were in their day.
