The Tilden Bank |

History:
The Tilden Bank is the oldest bank in Madison and Antelope Counties in Nebraska. James Stuart, a banker from Madison, and some of his associates from Madison established it in 1887. They joined with C.E. Burnham and H.S. Manville of Burnett to organize the bank. It was to be known as the Elkhorn Valley Bank.
July 24, 1887 - Opened for business
1899 - James Stuart founder and first president passed away. His wife, Lillie Stuart took over as President.
1911 - Elkhorn Valley Bank name changed to Tilden National Bank.
1925 - Lillie Stuart passed away. James and Lillie's son, Charles Stuart, became President.
1938 - Charles Stuart passed away. The daughters were also interested in the bank. Melinda actively helped her mother, and the other two daughters were stockholders. Mary, the youngest daughter, married J.R. Kinder in 1917.
1938 - J.R. Kinder became president of the Bank. He served as president until his death on August 22, 1968.
1940 - Tilden National Bank named changed to The Tilden Bank.
1952 - Present officers, directors and employees: J.R. Kinder, President; G.P. Bauman, Executive Vice President; B.E. Graham and J.J. Ryan Sr., Vice Presidents; Dean Hales, Cashier, W.W. Putney, Director; C.A. Marquardt, Director; Lavona A. Carolson, Teller; Joann M James, Bookkeeper; and Keith Bauman, Bookkeeper.
1967 - The Stuart family was active and controlled the bank from the time it began until its controlling interest was sold in 1967 to the Busskohl family from Norfolk. The family included father-Carl, sons-Doyle and Doug, and daughter-Beverly.
1995 - The Busskohl family sold their interest in the bank to Tilden Bancshares, Inc., a holding company formed and owned by local community investors.
1998 - The Loan Production Office opened for business in Creighton, Nebraska.
2002 - The bank proudly celebrated its 115th year of continuous service to the community.
2002 - Old bank building demolished and rebuilt in same location.
2003 - The Loan Production Office in Creighton, Nebraska becomes a full service bank.
2009 - Tilden Bankshares, Inc. purchased Citizens State Bank in Clearwater, Nebraska.
2010 - The Tilden Bank Loan Production Office opened for business in Madison, Nebraska.
