History:

Farmers & Merchants Bank in Seiling was issued a charter on November 15, 1901 . In April 1907, the bank changed it's name to the First National Bank. W. L. Pittman purchased controlling interest in Seiling State Bank on May 16, 1918 . On April 16, 1934 , W.L. Pittman purchased all the stock in the First National Bank and merged with the Seiling State Bank. The First National Bank name and charter was retained and the state charter was turned in for cancellation. W.L. Pittman was Chairman of the Board until he died in 1967 at the age of 92. His son, W. H. Pittman, became President in 1962 and later was Chairman of the Board until he died in 1999. Kitty Pittman has been Chairman of the Board since that time. The third generation bankers are Jim Pittman, Vice Chairman and CEO and Bill Pittman, Jr., Executive Vice President. Jim's two sons are also officers of the bank, Kirk Pittman, President and David Pittman, Vice President. For four generations, the Pittman family has maintained First National Bank's safety and security in the competitive community banking industry.

The First National Bank was listed the number one bank in Oklahoma in a Bank Rating Survey by Warren Weagant, published by Command Productions of San Francisco. The book, "Safe Banks," listed the top 15% of all US commercial banks based on special key financial indicators. The First National Bank of Seiling was listed 33 rd and 57 th in the nation out of over 14,400 banks in 1983 and 1984. In 1986, the bank received an A+ making the bank one of the best rated in the country. It received a 94 score out of a possible 99 regarding capital, asset quality, earnings, and liquidity.

Some interesting highlights of our history include:
The Seiling State Bank completed construction of the new bank building in March 1925. The brick colonial type building had an outhouse behind it and hitching posts on the south side where customers could hitch their horses or teams.
Franklin Roosevelt, President of the United States , issued an executive order closing all banks in the nation in March 1933. The Seiling State Bank was closed for 13 days.
A bank robbery took place in February 1935. Two of the convicts entered the bank while the third remained in the get away car. A gun was pointed at W.L. Pittman as the second robber gathered $523.00 from the teller. They escaped from the scene but were apprehended several days later, were tried and sent to prison.
In 1981 the First National Bank was completely remodeled inside and out and a new addition to the building was added on the north side giving the bank a modern up-to-date look.
The First National Bank bought all the accounts of Community National Bank in Seiling when it was closed by the FDIC in February 1987.

First National Bank remains dedicated to the growth and stability of our community and will continue to provide financial support with hands-on involvement with the many community, educational, social, philanthropic and faith-based organizations in our area. The directors, officers and employees of First National Bank consider it a privilege to have served this community for over 100 years and pledge the same quality and service to its loyal customers for the future.
