Glasgow Savings Bank

Overview:

The Glasgow Savings Bank which is located in Glasgow is the oldest bank in Missouri. Opening under its original charter on April 1, 1852 as "Exchange and Banking House" it is also the first bank to be opened in Glasgow. In 1859 a new charter was granted under the name Western Bank and on April 17, 1871 a third charter named it the Glasgow Savings Bank.

On May 16, 1933, Glasgow Savings Bank was honored by being made a member of the Federal Reserve System, Howard County's first bank to be so delegated, and subject to all Federal banking laws and regulations.

In 1996 Glasgow Savings Bank became the First Oldest Bank in Missouri after Boatman's Bank merged with Nations Bank. Glasgow Savings Bank is proud to record that many of its customers are descendents of those loyal patrons of earlier days when banking facilities of any type were few and far between. Among Glasgow Savings Bank's present day shareholders, are members of families who pioneered Glasgow Savings Bank's beginning over a century ago, in 1852.

On the "new" side of the coin, Glasgow Savings Bank has continued the philosophy that accompanied its founding, a progression that keeps up with modern ideas that are adopted in the best interest of its patrons, safety, the best available in equipment, and integral personnel.

Glasgow Savings Bank, indeed, is old in years, but new in ideas. It has been well said: "The Glasgow Savings Bank, like a precept, is not only good because it is old...it is old because it is good."
