History:

When Joe Rayl brought his family to Bolivar, Missouri, in the 1960s, he was working hard at getting his oil business off the ground. Named “Joe Rayl’s U-Save Oil Company,” Joe strayed from the industry standard and painted all his transport trucks bright pink. When asked, "Why that color?", his response was “When you see my pink trucks, you remember the name, don’t you?” The answer was a definite “yes”, and that philosophy would contribute to the successes that were yet to come.

Joe became hooked on banking when he bought his first bank in Strafford, Missouri, in the 1960s, and the rest is banking history. Traveling in Southwest Missouri throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, you could find a Bank owned and managed by Joe Rayl in six different counties. From Tri-County Bancshares to Southwest Banks, Joe made it convenient for customers to bank close to home. When he sold his group of banks to Mercantile Bank (now US Bank) in 1995, he thought he would retire. But he missed taking care of the banking needs of his community, and in 1996 he purchased Farmers State Bank in Schell City. From that one Bank, there are now six locations in three counties.

Joe and Jane Rayl continue to live in Bolivar and are proud to be the sole owners of Farmers State Bank. In 1999, Joe was also one of the incorporators of the South Padre Bank, South Padre Island, Texas, where he is still principal shareholder and continues to serve as Chairman of the Board.
