Overview:

The firm was founded in 1975 in La Paz, Bolivia, by Dr. Eduardo Quintanilla Ybarnegaray and Dr. Abel Soria Nau under the name of Quintanilla & Soria. In January 2008, the firm changed its name to Quintanilla, Soria & Nishizawa Soc. Civ.

       Dr. Quintanilla started his professional practice in La Paz, soon after his graduation from Universidad Mayor de San Simon in 1957, working as a solo practitioner and dealing with a wide range of civil and commercial matters. In 1975 he had already built a strong reputation for his practice in corporate, oil and mining law and his participation as a contract negotiator. He then joined Dr. Abel Soria N. - an expert in company and civil law - to create the firm, starting ever since its steady growth process.

       Today, the firm has a broad corporate and commercial practice which includes the general representation of corporations and private entities, both domestic and foreign, including tax planning, preparation of contracts and general counseling. Members of the firm usually participate in national forums of different kinds and have professionally assisted in complex international transactions. Presently, the firm has extended its practice to embrace both established fields such as corporate and commercial law, taxation, foreign investment, energy and mining law, banking and other developing areas in Bolivia, such as international joint ventures, securities law, telecommunications, regulatory system, etc..

       Two equally important traditions have shaped this first thirty years of practice: the commitment to the highest standards of the legal profession and the dedication to pro bono public service. Quintanilla, Soria & Nishizawa Soc. Civ. is engaged in pro bono service to individuals and non-profit organizations and we highly encourage the new associates of the firm to engage in such practice, and permanently participate as consultant to the Government in the preparation of new legislative drafts.
