Maspeth Federal Savings and Loan Association

History:

Maspeth Federal Savings & Loan Association began operations in 1947 as a federally chartered savings and loan association. Throughout its history, Maspeth Federal has concentrated its operations in Queens & Western Nassau Counties, New York and has operated as a traditional savings and loan association.

Maspeth Federal is headquartered in Maspeth, New York. In addition to our main office in Maspeth, we maintain five branch offices and one loan processing center.

To a large extent, Maspeth Federal's success in the marketplace is attributable to management's philosophy of personalized banking and to the organization's strong community ties. The commitment of our employees to that philosophy and to timely customer service has contributed to our success and profitability.

Over 60 Years of Servicing the Community

The longest journey always begins with the first step, however humble that may be. When Maspeth Federal first opened in 1947, there were two teller stations and an aisle barely wide enough for two people to pass at the same time. The first expansion and modernization took place in 1953, opening up the banking floor considerably. The first branch office opened on Woodhaven Blvd. in Rego Park in 1957. One year later, the sidewalk teller windows opened at the Main Office.

In 1972, the Main Office expanded once again, adding teller stations to meet the increased demand for banking services. In 1974, the third office of Maspeth Federal opened on Metropolitan Avenue in Forest Hills. Two years later, the fourth office opened during our country's bi-centennial year on Horace Harding Expressway in Fresh Meadows.

To round out the decade of the 70's, the Main Office opened three Drive-Thru teller windows, which provided customers with 8am to 8pm weekday banking. The fifth office and first one beyond the Queens border, opened in 1981 on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park, which was built with a drive-thru facility.

Additional expansion of the facilities occurred in 1986 when the Loan Center building opened directly across the streets from the Main Office parking lot. The Main office Drive-Thru facility doubled in size in 1992, the current capacity of six lanes open twelve hours a day to customers. In 1998, our Ridgewood branch located on Fresh Pond Road opened to fanfare.

Welcome to your Community Bank

Maspeth Federal Savings has a responsibility to the communities around us. We have local people making local decisions. The Free Summer Concerts and 5-Mile Fun Run have become mainstays in the community. They are long-standing events designed to bring the townspeople into the great outdoors. For more than forty years, Maspeth Federal has been holding free summer concerts. The concerts are held at our Main Office parking lot, Forest Hills branch parking lot and Memorial Field, near the New Hyde Park branch. The 5-Mile Fun Run, which is professionally timed, is co-sponsored with the 104th police precinct. It attracts more and more serious athletes each year.

Programs for Children

Children have always been favorites at Maspeth Federal, from the earliest days to the present. There were large scale models of a steam locomotive and a trolley car installed in the lobbies of two offices. The children were encouraged to play with them, not just look at them. Every fall, Maspeth Federal hosts a free kids carnival at our Main Office parking lot called "Smile on Maspeth Day". Along with our Young Savers Club accounts, Maspeth Federal values the children in our communities.

The Maspeth Federal Savings Trademark

The community of Maspeth has ties to our Native American past. The word Maspeth is the English version of what was formerly known as Mespat. Mespat derived its name from the Mespatches Indian Tribe that inhabited the area as late as the mid-17th century. The profile of the proud Mespatches Indian symbolizes our commitment to the community. Our town was named after his people, which we carry forward in the name of our association. It is part of the rich heritage of our past, our present and future.
