Brodeur & Company, CPAS, P.C.

Overview:

Brodeur & Company, CPAs, P.C. represents and emphasizes the great foundation and integrity of a certified public accountant. Accounting is the language of business, instills analytical and problem-solving abilities, and may be considered the common glue of business, providing the perspective often required when making important business decisions. The Firm's philosophy and success is rooted in the values and belief of its founder, Donald Brodeur, Sr. and successor, Donald Brodeur, Jr. who emphasize "traditional values" as the keys to success. Honesty and hard work translate into what may be considered the most traditional value of the CPA: professionalism.

Our objective of providing quality service to clients and our concern for the general public interest has established our reputation in our community and has enabled us to expand. Successful individuals and businesses in our financially motivated society continue to look for ways to conserve their hard-earned dollars wherever they can. Often, the accounting firm they employ is their most valuable resource.

Our clients do what they do best. It is up to us to make certain their budgeting, compliance, and reporting requirements are met so that they can continue to focus on their goals--not on technicalities.
History:

The Firm's founder, Donald S. Brodeur, Sr., began his career in 1957 in New York City with the national firm of Ernst & Ernst; now known as Ernst & Young. In 1963, the partnership Brodeur & Kenny, CPA was established in Niantic, CT. The Firm successfully expanded in 1966 to include a second office in Old Saybrook, CT and later moved to its current location on 10 Springbrook Road. After eight years of successful practice, the partnership dissolved on friendly terms; and Donald S. Brodeur, Sr. became sole proprietor of the Old Saybrook practice renamed as Donald S. Brodeur, CPA.

The practice incorporated on September 1, 1972 and became a professional corporation under the name of Donald S. Brodeur, CPA, P.C. The Firm experienced significant growth over the next ten years requiring additions to both its staff and office space. Thus, in 1976 and again in 1981, there were major renovations, including the addition of a fireproof vault and security system to safely store important financial documents. The expansion of the building during this period increased the office size from 1,000 sq. ft. to 4,000 sq. ft.

To assist with the growth of the practice, Donald S. Brodeur, Jr. joined the Firm in early 1982 bringing five years of accounting experience with Ernst & Young as an Auditor and as a Controller for a Connecticut manufacturer. With the successful father and son team, the practice continued to expand and prosper throughout the 1980's. Jeffrey S. Dunn joined the Firm in January 1986 following his graduation and in-house internship. The Firm acquired the successful 25-year, Guilford practice of Richard Reimer, CPA in 1987 and then the New London and Waterford practice of Joseph J. DiMarco, P.A. in 1989. The Firm agreed to maintain the office on Vauxhall Street Extension in Waterford, which became the Firm's first satellite office. Jeffrey S. Dunn, CPA was promoted to Manager of the Waterford office, and following graduation Stephan P. Brodeur joined the Firm to assist Jeff. Also joining the Firm in 1989 was Michael Michaud who currently supervises the individual tax practice of the Firm. To accommodate significant growth during the 1980's, an addition to the Old Saybrook office building was completed in 1989 and increased the building size to its current 6,000 sq. ft.

In 1991, Donald S. Brodeur, Jr. became a Principal within the Firm and assumed the position of Secretary with increased client and administrative responsibilities. At the end of 1995, the Firm reached a major milestone upon the retirement of its founder and President, Donald S. Brodeur, Sr. With the expertise developed during his 40-year career, Donald Brodeur, Sr. continues to perform an important role for the Firm in his capacity as a Governor appointee to the State Board of Accountancy, member of the UConn Department of Accounting Advisory Board, and a current member and past president of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Estate and Tax Planning Council, Inc. In 1999, Donald Brodeur, Sr. received the distinguished honor of the CSCPA Meritorious Service Award.

In January 1996, Donald Brodeur, Jr. and Stephan Brodeur assumed the positions of President and Secretary respectively at the time of Donald Brodeur, Sr.'s retirement. In 1999, the Firm's name was changed to Brodeur & Company, CPAs, P.C. to better reflect the growth of both the practice and professional staff.

Looking to the future, with the professional staff's many years of experience and solid reputation in the accounting and tax fields, the Firm anticipates continued growth and expansion in this rapidly changing global economy.
