We look to identify companies that have strong customer value propositions supported by sustainable economic models that leverage unique and differentiated intellectual property. Our investments typically have the potential to define and/or dominate their product categories and they operate in markets with compelling size and growth characteristics. Further, many of our investments will have core technologies or product roadmaps that identify adjacent market applications.

Capital efficiency also ranks as important criteria for our investments. We look for business models with sustainable high margins that can leverage inexpensive development and computing platforms and that exhibit low cost go-to-market strategies. In our experience, these companies can reach self sufficiency or exit with reasonable overall capital needs, which decreases risk and dilution and improves results for all stakeholders.

Headquartered outside of Philadelphia, NextStage Capital was founded with one goal: to build great technology companies in a region where there is a systemic undersupply of early stage capital. The firm was founded by an entrepreneur and two investment professionals with operating experience who saw an opportunity for a different approach to venture capital – an approach that integrates human capital expertise with patience and little hierarchy. We focus on finding undiscovered early stage investment opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic region with an emphasis on software and technology-enabled services. We dedicate our efforts to find talented entrepreneurs with compelling technology offerings and help them build long-term value.

Our team draws on years of experience as entrepreneurs, operators, and investors. The partners have invested nearly $200 million of seed and early stage capital and have helped build some of the most successful venture-backed companies in the region. We have participated in many profitable exits, as well as worked with companies through difficult situations, and our partners offer a comprehensive perspective and experience set to entrepreneurs.
