Paradigm Norton Financial Planning Limited

Overview:

In 2001 Paradigm Norton was formed with a clear purpose – “to deliver financial peace of mind and help our clients prepare for an uncertain future”.

Selecting the ‘right’ financial planners for your unique needs is a personal decision and one that should not be taken lightly. No one firm can really be right for everybody and we equally recognise that Paradigm Norton will not be a perfect fit for all.

We believe that we continue to be the best choice of professional advisers for most UK-based private clients, charities and businesses with substantial resources, highly complex needs and who embrace our values and approach.

Our Client Board* tells us that what sets us apart from others is our:

Fanatical attention to detail
‘Can do’ culture and preoccupation with delivering excellent client care
Ability to blend together our key services of financial planning, tax and estate planning, philanthropy planning and investment portfolio management
Unconventional low-cost, market-return approach to portfolio construction
Focus on the broader aspects of our clients’ lives and what is truly important to them
We believe that these characteristics are the direct result of the talented, professional team that we have built, the skills and expertise that we bring to our clients, and our unwavering focus on our clients’ needs. It is these hard-won and all too rare qualities, consistently applied over many years that have made Paradigm Norton one of the UK’s leading financial planning firms.

Our business model is unconventional too. Whereas many FCA regulated businesses are sales focused, we are service focused. We employ nine client relationship managers who are supported by a talented team of over thirty financial planners, tax planners and administrators.

By design, we only act for a relatively small number of clients, a strategy which allows us to devote a significant amount of time and attention to each client relationship.

We are the only financial planning business in the UK to have won the prestigious Citywire New Model Adviser award over five times. We are also the proud holders of the inaugural 2013 Institute of Financial Planning Accredited Financial Planning award. We are delighted to continue to win ongoing professional awards as external validation of our credentials. Over the last twelve years we have won awards for investment management, financial planning, retirement planning, technology, human resources and risk management.

If you would like the opportunity to have a no-obligation discussion about how the Paradigm Norton team might be able to help you plan, manage and arrange your financial affairs then please do give us a call. We would be delighted to meet with you to explore in more detail how Paradigm Norton might be able to help you.

Good financial planning should pay for itself, so if we believe that we cannot provide significant added value for you, your charity or your business we will let you know at the initial meeting.

We are financial planners. We take the time to listen to you and work closely with you to help you to determine what you want out of life.

We then craft a unique financial planning solution, tailored to your particular circumstances.

We started Paradigm Norton with a clear purpose – “to deliver financial peace of mind and help our clients prepare for an uncertain future”. To the Paradigm Norton team, financial planning is not about your money, it’s about your life. Financial planning is not so much about keeping the past the same as discovering how the future can be different.

Paradigm Norton strives to point towards a life well lived, not just money well preserved.

The financial planning process starts by identifying your plans, values, life goals, future aspirations and long term objectives – in other words seeking to determine what you really want out of life and whether the goals that you have articulated are affordable and achievable.

We typically work with wealthy UK domiciled private clients who recognise the value in mapping out and planning their financial futures and who wish to delegate the responsibility of creating a financial strategy to a team of competent professionals.

We are able to seamlessly combine your taxation requirements (including the preparation and submission of your tax return) with your investment strategy, your personal cash flow planning and your giving.

Our integrated approach to financial planning includes a detailed review of your overall financial position and takes account of personal tax and how this impacts, for example, the overall investment return that may be achieved.

We employ a highly qualified, specialist tax and estates team of chartered accountants and chartered tax advisers who review our clients’ investment portfolios, prepare their tax returns and also prepare our clients’ estate plans and inheritance tax mitigation strategies.

Through careful planning and the use of tax–efficient investment vehicles, we design financial strategies for you, which have the potential to make significant savings for you.

All our clients benefit from our four core services of:

Comprehensive financial and cash flow planning
Personal tax and estate planning
Investment portfolio management
Giving and philanthropy planning
A key and crucial area of building your overall financial strategy is – estate planning. This involves discussion and debate on some really challenging issues such as:

– How much should be passed to my children without impacting their personal self-motivation?

– How and when do I tell my children how much they may receive?

– Do I divide my estate equally between my children?

– As my children are now all financially independent I am minded to leave my estate to charity. How do I arrange a family conference and discuss this with my three children?

– How can I efficiently distribute my estate to those specified in my Will while still retaining sufficient capital to cope with the unforeseen – such as residential nursing home fees?

Many of these issues are of significant concern to our clients. From time to time we arrange client dinners to discuss these types of issues and encourage clients to share their stories and discuss how they have sought to resolve such challenges. Our client dinners are always well attended and stimulate lively debate.

A key element of the service that we provide for all of our clients is that of building bespoke and tailored investment portfolios which includes fund selection, asset allocation, investment administration and regular performance reporting.

In all our services, the distinctive difference of the Paradigm Norton approach is our interest in the wider aspects of your life.

Whether we are building an investment portfolio or planning for the achievement of your financial goals, we recognise that financial decisions cannot be determined in a vacuum.

Our approach to investment portfolio management starts with the need to establish firm and clear goals for the future use of capital, which we capture in your personal Financial Plan.

We then build an investment strategy that takes into account, for example, your investment time horizons, your thoughts and views on investment risk and which records investment milestones and provides for regular reporting on performance.

All clients will of course wish to maximise investment returns at an acceptable level of risk and volatility and build for themselves financial security. We work with you to identify your broader financial goals.

We help you to identify your values, your priorities, your dreams, your future aspirations and your broader life goals. (What some describe as the ‘Bucket List’ or ‘The 50 things that I want to do before I die’).

Only when your goals are clear can you make informed financial decisions that contribute to the achievement of those goals.

Ultimately, this gives you peace of mind about your finances because you know that your financial decisions are in balance with the other values and priorities in your life.

There are other financial planners who provide tax advice, investment advice and estate advice but no one integrates and embraces the ‘Paradigm Norton approach’ into their overall philosophy.

Our goal is to help you build a strategic, effective and affordable giving and philanthropy plan.

Traditionally, giving money away has often been regarded as an optional extra within financial planning, open to the minority who have surplus wealth, or perhaps to those who have a strong social conscience. Over recent years, however, we have noticed that a change has begun to take place. An increasing number of clients have begun to list ‘giving money away’ to others among their key financial planning goals and priorities.

In response to the demand from our clients, we have therefore made giving and philanthropy an intrinsic part of our overall service and financial planning and tax advice.

We see our role as your financial planner as being to guide you as to how best to manage your money, by maintaining an appropriate balance between the following five uses:

Spending
Saving
Debt repayment
Payment of tax
Give money away
We of course recognise that not everyone will wish to give money away, or be in a position to do so, but for those who are interested in pursuing such a strategy we will help them to understand their potential to give, either during their lifetime, via their estate or through a combination of the two.

We employ an extremely creative, talented and highly technically qualified team of professionals in both client-facing and operational roles.

At the heart of what we do is to cause our clients to reflect and consider what they really want out of life, what are their dreams, hopes, aspirations and passions? Do they have the quality of life that they set out to achieve? Can they afford to do what they really want to do? – This is financial planning.

At Paradigm Norton we work with high-earning and time-poor individuals. We do for them what a finance director and finance team do in business. We financially model their personal finances and help them to set goals and reorder their priorities.

Our planning aims to achieve three clear outcomes:

Time – to be able to focus on and achieve what is most important to our clients
Clarity – a clear financial roadmap of what the next 10, 20, 30 years might look like
Fund – typically our clients will accumulate more wealth than they could achieve on their own

Over recent years we have helped one client retire five years earlier than they had anticipated, another go onto a four-day week to spend more time with the family without compromising their lifestyles and another where we have worked with them to create an affordable yet ambitious ‘bucket list’ that they are steadily working through.

Perspective

As we get to know you we challenge the assumption and notion that more money brings more happiness and that greater levels of wealth will build stronger relationships.

We believe that many people also work under the false assumption that by working longer hours they can be more productive and can create additional capital. Significant evidence shows that this is typically not the case.

Often in the pursuit of building additional or greater levels of financial capital it’s very easy to miss out on the opportunity to build social and spiritual capital – time with family and friends, helping others and creating a legacy.

We will challenge the notion:

Of the ‘get rich quick’ mentality
That additional wealth can be created by ‘timing the markets’
There is significant evidence to prove that pursuing these practices rather than creating wealth can actually dissipate wealth. We encourage a change of thinking – a paradigm shift – in these areas.

Unique

Our strategy is to build our business by employing the UK’s leading financial and tax planners who clearly demonstrate the ability to readily and confidently translate complex financial issues and challenges into workable solutions and financial strategies for our private, charity and business clients.

On a daily basis we are presented with unique challenges that can only be resolved by creating unique and bespoke solutions.

It is the combination of our insightful approach, our goals-led approach to financial and tax planning, our preoccupation with excellent client care and our team-based client management structure that makes Paradigm Norton unique.
History:  Paradigm Norton was formed in 2001.
