In the last fifteen years, the same commitment to professional excellence has been applied to our specialist work for businesses and institutions.

Although the complexities and demands of legal practice today mean that we operate in specialist departments, we all work together to help clients solve their problems. Every client has a specific partner, as a central point of contact, who can draw on the knowledge and support of the whole firm.

We provide comprehensive legal support for businesses of all sizes from every sector, combining forward-thinking practices with knowledge based on experience. We are well known for our personal service and technical expertise, and give all our clients individual attention.

The firm and its lawyers have regularly featured in the Legal 500 and Chambers UK directories.

History:

Trinity House has been the home of leading Lewes and Sussex lawyers since the mid 15th century.

In 1925 the firm became known as "Hunt Nicholson & Adams" when Colonel Adams became a Partner and then in 1929 it changed to "Hunt Nicholson Adams & Co". The firm continued to work from Trinity House and in 1950 became known simply as "Adams & Co". It is said that Col. Adams used to instruct his clerk to park his Rolls-Royce outside the office at 3pm each day - "in order to give the right impression". In those days you had to pass an interview to become a client!

In 1951, John Remers joined the firm and was articled to Colonel Adams. In 1960 the firm became Adams & Remers when John Remers was made a Partner.

Colonel Adams retired in 1973 and John Remers became Senior Partner. John was a very dynamic and much-loved figure in the firm and the wider community until his retirement in 1992. He still visits the firm from time to time from his home in Brighton. Following the acquisition of several other firms in 1989 & in 1994 we opened our Brighton office in Rottingdean.

In the 70s and 80s, Kevin Ardagh emerged as a leading partner in the firm. Kevin was another huge force in the development of Adams & Remers. Together with Vernon Blackburn, Kevin established our investment management arm for private clients and oversaw the growth of our commercial law services. At one stage, we carried out all the contested recovery work in the South East for Barclays, as well as several other leading financial institutions.

Kevin retired in 2003. He was succeeded as Senior Partner by his brother, Paul. We have since successfully transferred our investment management business to Heartwood Wealth Management, formerly Cripps Portfolio, in order to concentrate on our core legal business - providing valuable and often complex solutions to high-net-worth individuals and corporates throughout the South East and in London.

We are proud of our history. There are traditions of service excellence that we want to maintain. However, we never let the past distract us from our commitment to provide the best advice today and to look for opportunities for us and our clients tomorrow.
