Acounting - what is it, and why does a business need an accounting department?
Accounting involves the communication of information about a business to internal stakeholders, such as managers and shareholders, and external stakeholders such as banks, prospective investors, customers, and government organisations.
A large corporation uses their accounting department to provide them with an analysis of the outcomes of the alternative decisions they can make in a given scenario. Ultimately, the operations of the corporation are translated into financial statements to external parties so it is imperative to have the people, who present the corporation's actions, involved in them.
A corporation's management knows that they have a good accounting department when they can communicate well with it and, therefore, effectively communicate with their internal and external stakeholders.

History:
Joel Bentley is the principal of SJB Accounting Services. He has had over 30 years experience in accounting as a sole practitioner in Australia and abroad.
Joel Bentley founded SJB Accounting Services as S & J.B. Pty Limited in 1992. Our first office was in the Central Coast as was the majority of our client base. We have since expanded to Sydney and our client base has expanded internationally. In 2005, the ATO informed us that our firm was the largest single-partner accounting firm in Australia. |
