Overview:

Australian Ethical Investment Ltd was established in 1986 for the purpose of pooling investor savings, specialising in environmental and socially responsible investment. Australian Ethical Investment is an independent funds manager based in Canberra. Listing on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2002, it is owned by shareholders with a shared commitment to improve the ethics of corporate Australia and promote ecologically sustainable and socially just enterprises through judicious investment.

It currently manages four public unit trusts with a range of risk and return profiles. Its wholly–owned subsidiary, Australian Ethical Superannuation Pty Ltd, manages four superannuation strategies each being modelled on one of the four Australian Ethical Trusts.

All investment selection is based upon the Australian Ethical Charter which has 12 positive and 11 negative principles. The aim is to provide investment support to environmental and socially positive activities such as recycling, conservation, energy efficiency, animal welfare, health, education, workplace relations and a range of related issues.

Australian Ethical is widely recognised as 'deep green' in the rigour of its ethical assessment and review process. Currently there are some 95 investments across a range of asset classes. The trusts and superannuation manage over AUD$360 million and have over 13 000 investors.

Australian Ethical Investment Ltd donates ten per cent of annual profits, as enshrined in the company constitution, to conservation, benevolent and charitable organisations.
