Metropolitan Ghana was formed in January 2006 with the acquisition of the long term insurance book from a composite company, Metropolitan Insurance Company Ltd. This book was placed in a dormant Life company called Metropolitan Life Insurance Ghana Ltd. Metropolitan Holdings subscribed for 60% of the shares and Metropolitan Insurance Company Ltd for the remaining 40%.

The existing management team remained in place, and their in-depth understanding of Ghanaian markets and long experience in the local insurance industry complement the strategic guidance provided by Metropolitan International.

The Metropolitan Life Ghana products address the needs of Ghanaian corporate bodies, brokers and individuals through a range of new generation life, investment and retirement products that address the needs of the Ghanaian life insurance market. Metropolitan Life Ghana's ability to provide an efficient service to brokers and policyholders is the result of combining modern, flexible and integrated administration platforms with people skills and an investment in the capabilities of our staff through training. Metropolitan has six branches in Ghana with an indoor staff of 68 and an outdoor staff complement of approximately 460.
