Accounting Services and advice
We prepare financial statements for Companies, Trusts, Superannuation Funds, Partnerships and sole traders to Australian Accounting Standards as required. We will show you how to use these statements to analyse and measure your performance, to budget and to plan for the future.
Advice on tax structures
Before you set up or buy a business, or make investment decisions such as buying a rental property, you should consider which tax structure is best for you. We can give you professional tax advice to see whether a company, trust, partnership or sole trader is the best option. The right structure may help you to distribute income, minimise tax, protect assets and reduce capital gains tax exposure. Seek help before you decide.
Audit & Acquittal services
We will prepare audited financial statements to Australian Accounting Standards for your sporting club, school association, incorporated body or community organisation. We will ensure your financial statements comply with the Incorporated Associations Act or other relevant legislation. We also offer grant acquittal services, where you have to provide audited acquittal of government and other community grants.
Business Activity Statement (BAS) Preparation
If your time is precious, and you can’t afford the time away from your business to do the paperwork, we can collate your income and expenses, reconcile your GST and PAYG Withholding and Instalment Taxes, and prepare the quarterly BAS for you. Simply drop your records into our office, and we will do the rest.
Business Planning
We can analyse your financial statements, and give you advice on how you are performing, where your problems are, and how to plan for the future. We can also give you guidance on record keeping and accounting software and advise you how to set up your accounts to save you money.
Business Purchase and Evaluation
Are you considering purchasing a business? It is important that you conduct due process before any decision. We can analyse an existing business, and give you advice on whether the business is sound, and the likely income for you. If starting a new business, we can analyse fixed and variable costs, and provide estimates of income needed to generate the income you expect. It pays to do your homework before acting.

When you start a new business, there are many legal requirements to register your business. You may have obligations to several state and federal government departments or agencies. In the case of the Tax Office, you may have obligations to several separate departments. We can simplify this process and assist you in running the gauntlet of these government organisations.

As Directors of a company, you will know that you have legislated obligations to the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC). By having us perform the Registered Office functions for your company, this will free you to devote your precious time to your business.
Superannuation Funds services
We prepare financial statements and taxation returns for Self-Managed Superannuation Funds, as required by the SIS Act. We prepare all end of year compliance documentation ready for the mandatory audit. If you do not have a qualified and competent superannuation fund auditor, (compulsory under the SIS Act 1993 and 1994) we can arrange one for you.

This firm was originally established as Cape York Tax Specialists in 1987 with offices located at Westcourt and here at Smithfield.
We quickly grew the business to include small businesses, and changed our name to Cape York Tax and Accounting to reflect these additional services.
In 2007, the business was sold with the Westcourt and Smithfield offices being sold separately, but continuing to trade as Cape York Accounting.
We are a small team of professionally qualified and experienced accountants. We bring to you a caring professional approach to all of your accounting and or taxation needs. Hence our motto:
