Overview:

Kay Investments Inc (KII) is an independent Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) doing business in many states across the country. You may read our consumer disclosure (link at bottom). KII has been an RIA since 2000.

The principal is Darrell J Kay, MBA and MA (Mathematics), in the investment field since 1986.

By ‘independent’ we mean that we are not working for, reporting to or part of, any financial institution. Fidelity Investments® is a service provider to Kay Investments Inc. Working with Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services® gives KII access to a wide range of products and services that can help us serve the needs of our clients. We have buy/sell privileges within your account, subject to an investment advisory agreement that we both sign at the start of our relationship. KII is not capable of earning commissions. We have no incentives to buy or sell any security. We are paid a fee, always less than 1% of your account per annum – as spelled out in our advisory agreement. Therefore, our incentive is in line with yours – to see the account grow.

Simple Mission Simple Story

We are an independent registered investment advisory firm (RIA) whose mission is to find and implement strategies that are capable of making money or preserving capital in both up and down markets. We believe that challenging economic times demand this. It’s a matter of financial survival.
Why

Whether you are an aggressive investor or conservative, in retirement or still working, the most important objective in building your portfolio is risk management. It’s simple mathematics. If your account loses 50% (think 2008) your account needs to double just to return to break even. Further, if you are drawing down your account to live (think retirement income) at the same time its value is plunging, those losses could be permanent and devastating.
How

Traditional investment strategies ask you to “buy and hold”, meaning force a smile through ugly markets and uncertain times, while waiting and hoping for a fast, full recovery. We are living in times that are not kind to such strategies. Investments have become highly correlated so that your entire portfolio may be vulnerable to wild swings or sizeable drops. Artificially low interest rates have exposed bonds and bond funds to the possibility (liklihood?) of a major crash when rates rise to more normal levels. May/June 2013 was a dress rehearsal for this eventuality.

We have found investment managers who have developed time proven strategies that are designed to lose minimally, hold value or make money when stocks and bonds crash. Some of these strategies exist within mutual funds and some of them are managed directly in your Fidelity brokerage account. In addition, your investments will truly diversify each other: all designed to accomplish similar goals but in very different ways. We purposely seek not just impressive track records but low or even negative correlations. In simple English when one investment “zigs” we expect others to “zag”.

Our most powerful tool is the Fidelity Managed Account Solutions program (MAS).
