Overview:

Fanisi Venture Capital Fund is a venture capital fund established in Luxembourg to work with competitive and sustainable East African businesses, whose ambitions are to grow and run their operations to global best practice standards.

Founded in 2009 by the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (Norfund) and Amani Capital Limited, the Fund focuses on a segment of the market that has to date been outside the ambit of most venture funds in the East African market. Fanisi makes equity investments of $0.5 million - $3 million per transaction in high growth businesses, including start ups and early stage companies, and is committed to working with East African entrepreneurs to build world class businesses with significant development impact on the economies in the region.

Fanisi expects to invest $50 million in high growth businesses in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda thus catalysing the growth of East African entrepreneurs, transforming them into key actors in their industries, regionally and globally. The Fund does not have a specific sector focus, but invests widely across a range of sectors, including agribusiness, ICT, retail, financial services, real estate, health and tourism.

Fanisi’s promoters and investment team combine a unique blend of expertise and skills in entrepreneurship, successful SME investing and fund management experience. The investment team and its strategic partner, Norfund, represent a team of professionals with deep local and global knowledge, and extensive networks and investment experience. The team brings critical experience in investing in the region and running business operations that is essential to understanding the challenges faced by SMEs in East Africa. The Fund is complemented by a Business Advisory Facility that provides critical pre and post investment capacity support, over and above the standard portfolio management.
