The Palmetto Bank

Mission statement:

As an independent Upstate financial institution, our mission is to achieve superior long-term shareholder value, exercise exemplary corporate citizenship, and create an environment which promotes and rewards employee development and the consistent delivery of quality service to our customers.
Vision:

This is our strategic vision.

In the years to come, we will be widely recognized as Upstate South Carolina's premier independent community banking organization. Through a variety of delivery channels we will provide a full range of high-quality financial products and services throughout our extended trade area. Through an unwavering commitment to our core values and mission, a strong positive corporate culture, and the strategic management of technology, we will provide a level of consistently superior personal service that will set us apart from other bank and non-bank competitors. And, through community involvement, superior financial performance and quality growth, we will create long-term value for our shareholders. This is what we want to accomplish as a company.
History:

Age isn't everything, but it speaks volumes about a bank today.

We've been serving customers of Upstate South Carolina since 1906. So while other banks come and go, we keep giving our customers what they want: convenient, friendly service with innovative financial products. We've done it this way for over a century, and we don't intend to change.

We are the third largest independent community bank headquartered in South Carolina. Currently we have 29 locations in 22 cities.

Every great success story is born of an innovative vision. The Palmetto Banks success can be traced back to the vision of J.J. Pluss, a Swiss immigrant farmer, and his business partner J.W. Ferguson. With $50,000 capital from the profit of their Laurens grocery store, they opened the doors to The Palmetto Bank on September 21, 1906. Theirs was a vision of providing valuable, reliable banking service to the community. Over the past century, that vision remains unchanged.

By weaving The Palmetto Bank into the fabric of Laurens, The Banks early leaders created an institution and a true community partner. This community loyalty helped The Palmetto Bank survive the Great Depression and the 1933 banking crisis without closing its doors. In just 30 years, The Palmetto Banks assets soared to more than $1.5 million. Truly a foundation for the future.

The decades that followed were a time of change and growth for The Palmetto Bank. The Bank opened its first branch in 1952 and continued to put down roots beyond Laurens. Through steady, managed growth, The Palmetto Bank had 11 Upstate locations by 1986.

The Palmetto Bank opened the new Greenville Corporate Headquarters in downtown in 2009, placing The Bank at a gateway location in Greenville, the banking center of the Upstate.
