History:

Bank of Travelers Rest... a Neighbor and a Friend
A group of nine men had a vision of progress. A vision where people would work, save and invest in their local community. This vision was developed and organized by these men and chartered by the state of South Carolina in 1945. Their vision - Bank of Travelers Rest.

The Grand Opening of Bank of Travelers Rest was held March 18, 1946 at its McElhaney Road location. Upon opening, the bank had $36,750 in assets, nine charter directors and three employees. The small, one-room branch operated Monday through Saturday making Bank of Travelers Rest the first bank in Greenville County to offer Saturday banking to its customers. Since computers were a thing of the future, the bank assisted customers from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and hand-posted transactions to individual accounts from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. It was not until 1968 that all bank accounts were converted to computer.

Roughly ten years after the opening of Bank of Travelers Rest, the McElhaney Road office moved to Poinsett Highway. Modern for its time, the new branch featured drive-in teller windows, floor space covering 2,000 feet and air conditioning. The downtown office operated until 1996. At that time, the branch staff was relocated to the new office at Roe Center Court. The operations department was relocated to Plaza Drive at that time.
As the oldest bank headquartered in Greenville County, the vision of Bank of Travelers Rest has only grown stronger through the years. Now over $450 million in assets, Bank of Travelers Rest has nine offices located in upstate South Carolina. As Executive Vice President Steve Farr stated, "We owe our success to our customers. We are a locally-owned community bank interested in the community we serve. We place an emphasis on the individual and are always eager to help."
