Overview:

Launched in the fall of 2001, Washington Capital Ventures is looking to find and fund early stage, East Coast-based technology companies.

Lev Volftsun worked in the international communications market until the mid nineties when he left a senior role in a major corporation to build his own company, Lightspeed International. His vision was to develop a radical new, open systems based software control platform from which service providers could build and develop new services much faster and more efficiently than previously possible. This vision gave birth to the first ‘soft switch’ architecture, now the standard for emerging and evolving carriers’ worldwide, enabling them to offer VOIP services equivalent or better to their traditional telephony products. In 1998, Cisco systems acquired Lightspeed International and its revolutionary softswitch architecture and Volftsun stayed on to run Cisco’s growing voice business unit.

Two and a half years later he left Cisco to pursue investment opportunities of his own and late in 2001 teamed with three west coast venture firms to seek out east coast opportunities.

During this time Volftsun was asked to run a portfolio company, Dynamicsoft which he did for almost a year as CEO and COO. Dynamicsoft has since been acquired by Cisco Systems.

Washington Capital Ventures continues to selectively fund interesting opportunities, primarily in technology fields.
