Bank of Virginia

History:

Bank of Virginia was in organization from November 1, 2002 through January 11, 2004, under the leadership of Mr. Hank Richeson.  Mr. Richeson started his banking career in 1966 holding various senior management positions at United Virginia Bank, Peoples Bank, County Bank of Chesterfield and SouthTrust-Richmond.

At the initial Board of Directors meeting on September 12, 2002, it was decided the bank name would be “The Community Bank of Virginia.” Organizing directors were Gary W. Fenchuk, G. Waddy Garrett, Thomas L. Gordon, J. Michael Jarvis, Jack W. Miller, Jr., Frances S. Powell, Claiborne G. Thomasson and Vernon E. LaPrade, Jr., with seven of the nine having extensive experience in community banking. The bank name was officially changed to Bank of Virginia on October 9, 2003.

The newly constructed main office located at 11730 Hull Street Road opened on January 12, 2004, with the grand opening celebration on June 5, 2004.

On August 18, 2005, the Bank’s Board of Directors authorized a two-for-one stock split to shareholders of record as of September 6, 2005. In November, 2005, the Bank completed a secondary stock offering through a shareholder rights and public offering raising an additional $10.7 million in equity. Bank of Virginia first traded on the NASDAQ on November 15, 2005, under the symbol “BOVA.”

In addition to its main office, Bank of Virginia operatives four branches including Woodlake, Chester and Branchway (across from Chesterfield Towne Center) in the Chesterfield/Midlothian area. In January 2008 the bank expanded into the west end with the opening of the Patterson Avenue branch in January 2008. Additionally, August 2009, the bank relocated its Winterpock store front office to a full service location just west of Woodlake on US-360.
