The Fauquier Bank

History:

The Fauquier Bank received its original charter February 14, 1902 and opened for business on March 20, 1902 as The Fauquier National Bank of Warrenton. In those early years, locally owned and operated banks were the rule. But when our first century in business concluded, we were the only independent bank still operating in Fauquier County and western Prince William County.

Our original purpose was to fill a community need for a local financial institution. The community responded and we grew. With growth came expansion; our Trust Department was established in 1919 and, in 1926, we opened a second branch in The Plains. Today, we have eight established branches and two new branches scheduled to open in the coming year.

Having weathered the Great Depression, several wars, and many periods of recessions followed by expansive growth, we are proud of our ability to adapt to the changing needs of the times. As the banking industry began to change in the late 1980's, we recognized we must also change. On June 25, 1994, The Fauquier National Bank became The Fauquier Bank, changing from a nationally chartered bank to a Virginia state bank.

In 1999, we introduced our website www.fauquierbank.com to enable our customers to bank electronically and manage their accounts 24/7 via the Internet. In August of that year, our parent company, Fauquier Bankshares, Inc., was granted registrant status by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and, after application approval by the NASDAQ, our stock began trading on December 23rd, under the symbol FBSS.

As our community grows, we branch out to meet the demand. We are proud of our heritage and our continuing status as a locally owned, independent community bank. Our roots run deep. We understand the area and we make our decisions locally with local interests in mind.
