The First National Bank of Palmerton

Overview:

Chartered on October 24, 1907 with a capital stock of $25,000, The First National Bank of Palmerton officially opened for business on January 6, 1908. The Borough of Palmerton's first financial institution established its office in a small brick building on Delaware Avenue. In years to come, this same location would be home to the Palmerton Lighting Company and, more recently, a florist.

Responding to the the economic boom of the roaring 20's, the Bank expanded again in 1926, acquiring property and erecting a new building at Delaware Avenue and Fourth Street. The custom-designed facility was equipped with the most current equipment and conveniences, and was considered to be the "very latest" in modern banking construction.

Over the next few decades, The First National Bank of Palmerton stood the test of time, surviving the uncertainty of the Depression and the trials of World War II. Then, on the heels of the 50's, came a resurgence of consumer confidence. Long-time bank employees took pride and pleasure in providing a broad range of services to the children and grand-children of their very first customers.

Along with disco and bell bottoms, the 70's introduced a focus on emerging technologies and planned growth strategies. Always in step with the times, the bank expanded and relocated in 1972, purchasing the former New Jersey Zinc - Horse Head Inn at the corner of Fourth Street and Lafayette Avenue. The Delaware Avenue property was then earmarked for community outreach and donated to the Palmerton Library Association.

Thanks to the loyalty of thousands of customers, The First National Bank of Palmerton continues to grow and prosper in four of Northeastern Pennsylvania's most beautiful counties: Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton. As our history proves, an unwavering commitment to providing quality financial services has played a critical role in our success. Originally born of the needs of a fledgling community, we have evolved into a rock-solid, caring, concerned citizen...interested and active in the current affairs of the communities we are privileged to serve. The First National Bank of Palmerton, a sole subsidiary of Palm-Bancorp, Inc. (a one bank holding company), is a federally chartered bank operating under the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
