Allegheny Valley Bank of Pittsburgh

Overview:

At the dawn of the 20th century, the “Steel City” buzzed with industry and innovation. The smog that covered the sky was testament to the might of the mills, whose furnaces belched fire around the clock and provided thousands of jobs. Entrepreneurs like Andrew Carnegie, Henry Heinz and George Westinghouse shared discoveries and inventions that further spurred economic growth making life easier and more comfortable. Though the days were long and the work was hard, people of every class were feeling optimistic, believing they were better off than ever before.

T. Mellon and Sons (1869) and Pittsburgh Trust & Savings Company (1852) were the two banks that dominated the region, competing for majority influence with the powerful people chosen for their Board seats. A group of local business men decided there could be a different way…a way for a bank to focus on community, on solving the financial problems of its clients and on supporting the economy through gainful employment. On June 29, 1900, these local business men executed an organization certificate for the formation of Allegheny Valley Bank of Pittsburgh with equity of $50,000 and assets of $640,000. On November 26, 1900 the first branch opened for business located at 5156 Butler Street.

The past 110 years have brought many changes to our city and our institution. The Bank has grown from operating out of a back room at 5156 Butler Street, to nine conveniently located branches, a premier online cash management department and a courier service that will pick up your deposits at your doorstep. We don’t know if the founding members could have imagined their institution 110 years later closing the year with equity of $41 million and assets of $411 million. However, we know they did imagine an institution that has not forgotten its past and whose mission remains consistent. Our mission today:

We are problem solvers.
We ensure a great customer experience.
We deliver the product that is…
right for you.

Throughout the changing face of our city, Allegheny Valley Bank continues to focus on building a better Pittsburgh. For the past 110 years, Allegheny Valley Bank created relationships that have endured all times. From your favorite specialty grocery store, to your local medical practice, we assure your deposits sustain the businesses and people within your neighborhood.

Thank you to our customers and constituents whose patronage and support has afforded Allegheny Valley Bank the ability to serve the community for 110 years.
