Our roots are deeply tied to the people, commerce and values of the western Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio regions. For 155 years, Dollar Bank has grown to become a large, full service, regional bank committed to providing the highest quality of banking services to individuals and businesses. Today, Dollar Bank operates more than 60 branch offices and loan centers throughout the Pittsburgh and Cleveland metropolitan areas.
History: 

July 19, 1855
Charles Colton opens Pittsburgh Dollar Savings Institution. The first day's deposits total $53.
September 4, 1858
Pittsburgh Dollar Savings Institution is renamed "The Dollar Savings Bank."
1871
Two stately lions, sculpted by Max Kohler, are placed by the entrance of our Fourth Avenue Building as symbols of guardianship of the people’s money.
March 1871
Dollar Savings Bank's Fourth Avenue Building opens.
1896
The Board Room is added to the Dollar Bank Fourth Avenue Building at a cost of $37,981.
1906
East & West Wings are added to our Fourth Avenue Building.
1930s
The main lobby of our Fourth Avenue Building is redecorated.
1931
$1 million in cash is brought to the bank office floor to prove the availability of customers' funds during The Great Depression. The Bank never closed.
1938
The original vault in our Fourth Avenue Building is relocated to the basement, making room for our Trustee Boards Anteroom.
November 1, 1949
The first time Dollar Savings Bank has assets at book value of over $100 million.
February 1950
Dollar Savings Bank purchases the Boyd Building, using the first two floors and leasing the remainder of the building.
1955
A Century of Saving Dollars: 1855 - 1955, a book about Dollar Savings Bank's history, is written by William T. Schroyer.
July 19, 1955
Dollar Savings Bank celebrates 100 years.
1956
Dollar Savings Bank buys the DeRoy Building and converted the first floor, expanding the Fourth Avenue Office footprint.
1960s
Dollar Savings Bank’s Fourth Avenue Building’s skylights were filled in, the interior was repainted and the teller counter was altered to make it one level surface.
June 29, 1961
Dollar Savings Bank's first branch office opens in the Oliver Building.
November 30, 1964
Dollar Savings Bank enters the computer age with our first online electronic bank accounting system. The first in Pennsylvania and one of the first ten in the country.
1976
The first time Dollar Savings Bank has $1 billion in assets.
January 20, 1976
Pay-By-Phone is introduced as the first bill payment system of its kind in Pennsylvania and second in the nation.
July 14, 1976
Dollar Savings Bank's Fourth Avenue Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
1977
Dollar Savings Bank installs our first ATM machine.
1978
Free retail checking accounts (NOW accounts) are offered for the first time at Dollar Savings Bank.
July 1981
Dollar Bank begins to offer accounts and services tailored to the needs of businesses.
1984
Dollar Savings Bank is renamed to "Dollar Bank".
September 20, 1984
Dollar Bank acquires Continental Federal Savings & Loan Bank and offers banking services to the Cleveland, OH area.
1986
Dollar Bank begins offering term loans, lines of credit and credit cards.
January 18, 1994
The first Dollar Bank Loan Center is opened in Murrysville, PA.
March 1994
Dollar Bank's Win-Win Home Equity Adjustable Rate Loan is launched and is the first loan of its kind.
July 1994
Dollar Bank presents the first ever Dollar Bank Jamboree, a free concert, with proceeds from food, drink and promotional sales benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western PA and City of Cleveland Department of Parks, Recreation & Properties.
March 1997
Dollar Bank becomes the 16th bank in the country to offer Online Banking via the Internet.
April 1998
Dollar Bank becomes a permanent part of US history when our Online Banking service is inducted into the 1998 Computerworld Smithsonian Innovation Collection.
January 4, 1999
Dollar Bank initiates the Freedom ATM Alliance surcharge free network.
2000
Mortgages For Mothers seminars for low to moderate-income individuals are introduced.
2003
Dollar Bank reaches $5 billion in assets.
May 8, 2003
Dollar Bank introduces high definition, multimedia video screens to the Pittsburgh Region at the David Lawrence Convention Center. The Region In Motion, Regional Gallery and the Regional Showcase highlight the region’s history, culture, people, natural resources and amenities.

Dollar Bank starts using imaging technology to present checks and statements.
Summer 2003
Dollar Bank participates in DinoMite Days, a citywide art event put together by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the City of Pittsburgh, by sponsoring two "piggy bank" pink dinosaurs.

Dollar Bank elects Robert Oeler, a 34-year employee, the new President and CEO.

Dollar Bank is the first to offer Text Message Banking.
