Profile:
For more than 40 years, Patton Boggs has maintained a reputation for cutting-edge advocacy by working closely with Congress and regulatory agencies in Washington, litigating in courts across the country, and negotiating business transactions around the world. Our partners include women and men with extensive backgrounds in government service with strong ties to both major political parties, as well as top-flight litigators and individuals with a keen understanding of business and finance.
Patton Boggs began as an international law firm concentrating in global business and trade in 1962. While we have maintained our strong concentration in international and trade law, we have evolved beyond our roots to become a full-service firm with a national presence in every major area of legal representation. We were among the first law firms to recognize that all three branches of government could serve as forums in which to achieve client goals, enabling us to emerge as the nation’s leading public policy law firm, and we have developed our extensive business law capabilities into the firm’s largest practice area.
We value working with lawyers and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds whose individual personalities and styles contribute to an interesting, relaxed, and supportive office environment, a commitment that is reflected in our One Firm, One Community Principle. “One Firm, One Community” describes a firm in which geographic, political, and practice-driven barriers have been removed, resulting in a culture of inclusion and open communication. A unity of direction and purpose connects offices and departments, with resources, ideas, and information freely shared.
At Patton Boggs, there is respect for and appreciation of the contributions of a diverse group of team members. Leadership roles are shared among offices, and there is trust and mutual support as people with equal voices work together to achieve firm goals.
Through this site, we look forward to welcoming you to the firm, highlighting a few features about our practice, and, we hope, sharing ideas for partnering with you. |

Overview:
Patton Boggs is based in Washington DC, where the firm has been a leading member of the business and legal communities since our founding here in 1962. Long recognized as the nation’s leading public policy law firm, Patton Boggs was a pioneer in merging public policy expertise with traditional legal practice. Today, professionals in our Washington office are recognized internationally for their in-depth knowledge of how government works, their strong, bipartisan relationships with policy makers, and their skill as advocates for their clients.
The Washington office has also paid close attention to the bedrock of our practice by recruiting top-flight litigators and professionals with a keen understanding of business and finance. Thus, in addition to our unparalleled public policy practice, the Washington office is also home to exceptional business, litigation and intellectual property practices. Working closely with their colleagues in the firm’s other offices, our Washington attorneys are able to provide virtually any legal service with depth and skill.
The Washington office is located on the dividing line between the historic neighborhood of Georgetown and the downtown office and commercial district. Georgetown offers visitors and guests a wide selection of fine hotels, restaurants, and shops, as well as the Georgetown University campus, the George Washington University campus, and many parks and gardens.
Our office is a 20-minute cab ride from Union Station (Amtrak), a 15-minute ride from Reagan National Airport, and 45 minutes from Dulles International Airport. The Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station is a 10-minute walk from our office. |
