Mission statement:

CBIS works in partnership with Catholic institutions to help them achieve their financial goals through socially responsible management of their investments.
Overview:

Christian Brothers Investment Services, Inc. (CBIS) is the leader in Catholic socially responsible investing (SRI), with approximately $3.6 billion in assets under management for over 1,000 Catholic institutions worldwide, including dioceses, religious institutes, educational institutions and health care organizations. CBIS’ unique understanding of the financial needs of Catholic organizations and our retention of best-in-class institutional managers for our diverse range of equity and fixed-income programs produces competitive investment returns and unifies faith and finance.

Our disciplined socially responsible investing (SRI) program combines principled purchasing decisions (stock screening) and active ownership (shareholder advocacy) in order to encourage companies to become better, more responsible corporate citizens. Our active ownership strategy includes proxy voting, dialogues with company management, and filing shareholder resolutions to promote social and environmental change as well as ethical corporate governance.

CBIS was founded in 1981 by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, widely known as the De La Salle Christian Brothers, to provide trusted socially responsible investment management services exclusively to Catholic organizations. CBIS has grown steadily because it has struck a responsive chord with Catholic organizations which seek to align their mission with their investments and unify faith and finance.

CBIS' shareholders are the six districts of the Christian Brothers in the United States and the Center of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, each of which has a representative on the Board of Directors. CBIS operates as a for-profit corporation.

CBIS is an investment adviser registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. CBIS Financial Services, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of CBIS, is a broker-dealer registered with the SEC under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. CBIS investment professionals are expected to comply with SEC and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) requirements.
