Established in 2004 by Michael van Biema, van Biema Value Partners is a specialized investment management firm focused exclusively on investing in small (in terms of assets under management), deep value-oriented managers. We currently manage three strategies differentiated by geography: US, Asia, and Global. We also serve as an OCIO and offer customized portfolios for specific mandates. We run the firm based on two fundamental tenets that have been borne out in both academic and empirical research: that a value approach outperforms other investment styles and the broader markets over the long term, and that small managers tend to outperform larger managers. We believe that via the deep expertise and extensive proprietary network of our investment team, led by Michael van Biema, former professor of value investing at Columbia Business School, and our renowned Board of Advisors, we can provide our clients and investors with access to a high alpha niche of talented, small, "undiscovered," deep value managers globally that they would generally have great difficulty identifying and evaluating independently but who have the potential to generate superior long-term investment returns.
