Overview:
Garrigues was one of the first European firms to establish an office in the United States, when the firm opened an office in New York office in 1973. The office operates as a platform from where our attorneys advise clients in connection with cross border transactions in Spain, Latin America and elsewhere. Our New York team is composed of seasoned practitioners, which bring together a unique blend of legal experience, and cultural backgrounds. We have attorneys from Spain, the United States, Belgium, and Colombia. Collectively, we operate in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, and Catalan.
Our Spanish Practice.
Our multidisciplinary team of Spanish qualified attorneys has vast experience in advising international clients and is very familiar with the requirements and expectations of multinational companies. Some of the New York based attorneys have practiced and/or are admitted in the United States, including New York and Florida.
Our Spanish practice in New York focuses on mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, reorganizations, tax planning and structuring. We also have commercial law and litigation capabilities. In addition to advising on substantive Spanish law, we manage and coordinate multijurisdictional transactions in Europe (with emphasis on Portugal), Asia and Latin America.
Our Latin American Practice.
We also have a Latin American Desk, composed of lawyers with broad experience in advising clients doing business in Latin America. The members of the team have worked on corporate transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, reorganizations and roll-outs; finance transactions, including acquisition, asset based and trade finance transactions; as well as on a variety of commercial law matters. Our Latin American team is assisted by the experts of the firms which compose Affinitas, an alliance of Latin America law firms promoted by Garrigues.
Through the Affinitas alliance, we have access to the legal markets of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, and a strong presence in 9 cities in the Latin American region. Each of our member firms is recognized as one of the leading firms in its own jurisdiction. Most of our Latin American partners have been acknowledged as principal experts in their respective fields on practice.
Our European IP Practice.
The New York office is also the seat of our European IP Desk, devoted to the counseling on, and the registration of patents and trademarks in Europe. The Desk is headed up by a Belgian attorney who is highly recognized in the European IP field. |
