Canada is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Canadians are famously polite so you can be sure you’ll have a great time in Canada if you visit it. Nature lovers enjoy Canada more than most people. Even people who aren’t into nature become obsessed with it when they get to Canada. While it’s worth visiting, a trip to this beautiful country can cost a lot if you don’t know what you are doing.
Book Accommodation in Small Towns
If you compare accommodation prices in ,Toronto with prices in Rimouski, for example, it’s obvious that you’ll pay A LOT more for the same apartment in Toronto than you would in Rimouski or some other small town. Even if you’re visiting Canada to see some major cities, it’s still better to find a room or an apartment in a small town next to your destination. That will force you to travel some more and save you money. Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about your destination. There is a way to save on tours too.
Find Yourself a Guide on a Local Dating Site
You can save money on a tour guide if you meet someone in advance on one of the local dating sites reviews and negotiate to take a walk around the city. It’s widely known that locals are the best guides. If you take an organized tour, you’ll end up seeing common places every tourist visits in Canada. You don’t want to do that when you can get so much more for less money.
Sign up for some dating sites and start contacting Canadians from the place you would love to visit. When you find somebody who fits your standards, arrange a meeting in their town and start following them. Make sure you visit all the important touristic places but don’t stop there. Make her/him show you some places, things, and experiences regular tourists can’t even imagine.
Travel Out of Season
One more thing that costs tourists a lot of money is traveling at the peak of the traveling season. Don’t make that rookie mistake. Plan a trip off-season. There are 2 reasons why that’s better than traveling with everybody else:
- Traveling off-season will greatly reduce the cost of a trip (lower accommodation prices, lower prices in restaurants, tour agencies, and so on)
- You’ll have a chance to see your favorite Canadian place as it is (during the season, everything is focused on tourists, so towns lose their usual energy. Traveling out of season will make you feel like you’re a local)
Prepare Your Own Food on the Trip
Yes, the restaurants are amazing. Yes, Canadian food is great. But restaurants aren’t cheap. Even if you go to Canada from the U.S., prices will seem lower and don’t eat out every day.
Of course, you’ll try traditional dishes but do it once. Not 15 times.
The rest of your meals can be home-cooked. Go to the grocery store, buy what you need, and start cooking. It’s a nice way to save money and have fun. If you know how to cook, it will be fun because of that. If you don’t know your way around the kitchen, it will be even more fun because you’ll have to learn on the spot if you want to save money. You can play it safe and cook mac & cheese, or be adventurous and cook some traditional Canadian food such as poutine.
When Traveling Between Major Cities in Canada, Use the Megabus
Since Uber and similar services came out, everybody uses them because they are much cheaper than regular taxis because of one simple reason. Canada, being awesome as it is, has a similar thing for busses. It’s called Megabus. While traveling around the town, use a taxi or Uber, but when you need to move from one big Canadian city to another – don’t use a regular bus. Use Megabus. You’ll never find a cheaper way of traveling around Canada. Maybe if you get a horse or a moose and ride it. But that would be so slow and freezing. So, use Megabus.
Saving money while exploring Canada doesn’t sound impossible after reading this. So, where will you go first?
