Bergen Research Foundation
The foundation gives grants toward research and research supporting activities at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital, and also other Norwegian reserach institutions if they cooperate with the institutions in Bergen. It also gives grants to support research at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital at the interface between basic research and clinical research.

The Bergen Research Foundation was founded in 2004 by means of a NOK 50 million donation from Frank Mohn AS. In the years to come, the capital of the foundation has increased significantly, primarily as a result of new gifts from Trond Mohn, Marit Mohn and Frederik Mohn, and due to the merge of the three foundations; the Bergen Research Foundation, the Bergen Medical Research Foundation and the Frank Mohns Foundation, in 2014 . Since the foundation was established, a total of NOK 650 million has been allocated for statutory purposes (as at 31 December 2016). At year-end 2016/2017, the Foundation’s equity was NOK 2 248 million. In a Norwegian context, the gifts of the Mohn family are unique. They give the research communities an outstanding advantage in the long-term work of establishing research and building expertise at a high international level, both in Bergen and in the rest of Norway.
