Day & Read Inc. is the premier financial risk management company in Central New York. We are a locally owned, independent insurance agency with five locations throughout the Mohawk Valley region. In addition, Day & Read is an accounting and tax preparation firm that offers investment services through its affiliation with Advanced Group Financial Services LLC., of Utica, N.Y.
In 1983 Timothy Day went to work at his father Jack Day’s insurance agency in Ilion, New York. He was later joined by Nicholas Scarafile in 1990 and the agency’s ownership and name was changed to Day & Scarafile Associates, Inc. in 1994. This property and casualty agency was successful in developing its commercial and personal insurance business into one of the top agencies in the Mohawk Valley. Simultaneously, in 1984, David Read joined Mahoney & Mahoney in Little Falls, New York. In 1991, William Read, David’s brother, an accountant in Massachusetts at the time, returned to Little Falls and together they changed the agency name to Read Financial Group, Inc. The firm developed a unique diversification that set it apart from all other firms in Central New York. It realized its strength in insurance, investments, tax and accounting services. In 2006, Day & Scarafile Associates and Read Financial Group merged with the goal of creating a full-service independent agency capable of handling all facets of our clients’ personal and business financial needs. As a merged firm, Day & Read, Inc. has continued to grow its client base and expand its business. In 2010 the John DelBuono Insurance Agency moved into the Marcy office of Day & Read and that is now the center for insurance operations for the greater Utica area. In the same year, a new Utica office was established in order to make room for the accounting and tax operations. The expansion continued in 2011 with the purchase of the Roth Bros. insurance agency in Rome, N.Y. This move has strengthened the ability of Day & Read to provide complete client services to our customers located in Rome and the western end of the Mohawk Valley. In 2014, Day Scarafile & Read Inc purchased the Crocker insurance agency in Herkimer, NY. In 2016 this office was merged with our H&R Block in Herkimer and our new state-of-the-art location was established at 500 E State Street, Herkimer. During each phase of expansion, Day & Read has always developed its business model with its clients as their first priority.
